Churches Playing Politics Should Not Be Tax-Exempt

Churches Playing Politics Should Not Be Tax-Exempt
According to Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, churches cannot engage in any of the following activities under the federal tax law:
Cannot endorse or oppose candidates for public office
Cannot make any communication—either from the pulpit, in a newsletter, or church bulletin—which expressly advocates for the election or defeat of a candidate for public office
Cannot make expenditures on behalf of a candidate for public office or allow any of their resources to be used indirectly for political purposes (e.g., use their phones for a phone bank)
Cannot ask a candidate for public office to sign a pledge or other promise to support a particular issue
Cannot distribute partisan campaign literature
Cannot display political campaign signs on church property

The New Hope Baptist Church of Charlotte, NC, displayed a message on their main billboard sign that said: “Obey God, Vote Yes on Amendment One.” This refers to the so-called gay marriage ban referendum in NC. Gay marriage is already prohibited in NC. This amendment to the NC constitution is actually nothing short of a vote for hate and prejudice, banning recognition of all civil unions, gay or heterosexual. It weakens domestic violence laws for unmarried partners, causes loss of their parental custody rights, and could even prevent their right to visit hospitalized partners.
The use of fundamentalist and catholic churches as vehicles for political purposes by Karl Rove and other tea party extremists is increasing rapidly. It has nothing to do with Spiritual beliefs. It is solely designed for political manipulation.
Jesus never once condemned homosexuality or any kind of love and devotion. All of His teachings lead to a totally different viewpoint, as evidenced in such parables as The Good Samaritan.
When churches become mouthpieces for political organizations, they should lose their tax exempt status. It is time to re-visit this exemption.
If you believe that a church has violated the law, fill out a Department of the Treasury—Internal Revenue Service Form 13909, available as a regular pdf to print and fill out by hand or on your computer.
Contact Exemptions Include:
Mail:Ӭ
IRS EO ClassificationӬ
Mail Code 4910DAL, 1100 Commerce Street
Dallas TX 75242-1198ӬӬ
Fax:Ӭ
214-413-5415ӬӬ
E-Mail:Ӭ
eoclass@irs.gov
To complain to the IRS about its tax regulations permitting churches to politick over referenda, write to:ӬӬDouglas ShulmanӬCommissioner of Internal RevenueӬ10th St & Pennsylvania Ave, NWӬWashington, DC 20004
For more information, please see the IRS "Tax Guide for Churches and Religious Organizations."
Read More Here:
http://ffrf.org/faq/state-church/churches-and-political-lobbying-activities1/

NC Ammendment One IS Not A Gay Marriage Ban- It’s Much Worse!
One more plea regarding Amendment One:
If you haven't read it and are only relying on things you've been told, please take time to read the amendment as it will read in the NC constitution if passed on Tuesday. If you think it is a gay marriage ban you are wrong. It will hurt opposite sex couples, families and especially children. It will get into every aspect of your life from medical decisions to medical benefits to who raises a child should something happen to a partner. All I ask is that you read it before you vote. This is not a religious issue. It is a Civil Rights issue, and a “yes” vote will be, IMHO, a vote for hate, for discrimination, legal confusion, and a step back for about 50 years in Civil Rights for all Americans.
Written by Robin Perry.
Centrist and Conservative Scholars Admit That The Republicans are the problem

Abuse of the filibuster, intentional obstruction and gridlock, automatic opposition even of proposals they supported within the last 2 years, permanently campaigning for their own interests rather than those of the majority of Americans.... even honest conservatives know the true cause of gridlock. The GOP values their party more than their country. And now the moderate, intelligent conservatives like Norman Ornstein and Thomas Mann, representing the conservative American Enterprise Institute and the centrist Brookings Institution are speaking up and fighting back against tea party extremism.
On the heels of the video of Rep. Allen West, a Florida Republican, stating that 78-81 Democrats in congress are members of the Communist Party, Ornstein and Mann state that in over 40 years of studying Washington politics and Congress, they have never seen it so dysfunctional.
In their article in the Washington Post, Ornstein and Mann state:
“ In our past writings, we have criticized both parties when we believed it was warranted. Today, however, we have no choice but to acknowledge that the core of the problem lies with the Republican Party.”
Read more here:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/lets-just-say-it-the-republicans-are-the-problem/2012/04/27/gIQAxCVUlT_print.html

My Health Care/ Medical Insurance Poll

HEALTH CARE POLL
Since all polls are designed to provide predetermined result to varying degrees, here’s one I have created (possibly the first of many).
Please vote Agree (A) or Disagree (D).
Medical insurance companies should:
1. Decide what kind of medical care you are allowed to receive.
2. Be able to drop coverage at any time without notice.
3. Be able to refuse coverage due to pre-existing conditions.
4. Spend over twice as much on clerical and administrative costs as on actual medical care.
5. Be able to overrule the type and dosage of medications prescribed by your doctor.
6. Deny contraceptive coverage to women because of an organization’s religious beliefs, ignoring the beliefs of the majority of employees.
7. Make profits significantly greater than the majority of American businesses (in excess of 20%).
8. Fire CEOs that make less than 20% profit for the insurance company.
9. Pay their CEOs multi-million dollar salaries, with bonuses for increasing profits at the expense of patients’ essential services.
10. Provide the most expensive coverage for the least comprehensive coverage of any industrialized nation.
11. Write legislation through lobbyists that causes 40 million Americans to be uninsured and unable to receive care outside of emergency room treatment, often choosing between food and medicine.
12. Be the largest cause of homelessness in America.
If you agree with these health care guidelines, and believe no reform of our current health care rationing system is necessary, you are undoubtedly a Republican. You call health care reform “ObamaCare”. I wonder if you call Social Security “RooseveltCare”. The propagandists behind defeating health care reform
(e.g., ALEC, the Koch Brothers, Rupert Murdoch) will be targeting Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security next.

Who are the Koch brothers, and why should I care?
The Koch brothers fortune is exceeded only by that of Bill Gates, and they are spending it to fund their right wing extremist agenda that includes the dismantling of everything from Social Security to Medicaid. They are the economic force behind the vigilante law in FL and similar NRA license to kill laws.
They are behind disenfranchising voters who cannot produce specific identification documents, voters who could vote in 2008 but now cannot. These laws are designed to prevent voting by minorities and the elderly, those who would oppose the destruction of the remaining social safety net programs.
They are spending millions to defeat Pres. Obama and defeat health care reform.
They have collected $100 million in government contracts since 2000, while spending $50 million on lobbying and $8 million in PAC contributions.
They are funding anti-environmental regulation efforts and propaganda denying climate change.
They have contributed at least $1 million promoting ALEC (the American Legislative Exchange Commission) that writes state level legislation promoting union-busting and the murderous FL “stand your ground law”. They prop up right wing demagogues like Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA) and Gov.
Gun-Toting Middle Schoolers
A loaded gun was found in the locker of a middle school student in Ballantyne, a suburb of Charlotte, NC, on April 17, 2012. Police found the gun after questioning a student, following a report by another student to school administrators. The tip came from a child who saw the gun in a fellow student's backpack.
No report of arrests by police had been received as of the publishing of this story in the Charlotte Observer on April 18.
So far, the NRA has not called for the arming of all middle school children in the area to "protect themselves". No word has yet been received of plans by ALEC to fund legislation legalizing concealed weapon rights for pre-teens.
http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2012/04/17/3180394/loaded-gun-at-community-house.html
