Forced Transvaginal Ultrasounds for Rape Victims?
We need people from all over the country to tell Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell that he must veto a bill which could force a rape victim to undergo an invasive ultrasound procedures without her consent.
By legal definition, this procedure is rape in the state of Va.
This is the most extreme government violation of the rights of citizens imaginable.
From Credo Action:
The Virginia House of Delegates is poised to pass a bill that would require women in Virginia to undergo an invasive procedure known as a transvaginal ultrasound as a part of "informed consent" before having an abortion.
However, under the Virginia criminal code, this procedure could be classified as rape. Rape with an object is illegal in the state -- and there is no medically required purpose for the transvaginal ultrasound. This is especially horrible because this procedure required under the bill will be implemented without the woman's consent.
Because of intense public scrutiny, some Republican Delegates have signaled that they may be reconsidering their support for this bill. And the best way to ensure that this bill fails to pass the House of Delegates is for Governor McDonnell to threaten to veto it.
And as a Republican with national political aspirations and who serves as the chair of the national Republican Governor's Association, Governor McDonnell needs to hear from people across the country that they want him to veto this legislation.
I told Governor McDonnell to threaten to veto legislation requiring an invasive transvaginal ultrasound before having an abortion. And you should too. You can sign the petition and get more information at the link below.
